The Tamil film industry is duly positioned in Chennai and it has a vigorous and pulsationg history from the time that it brought the first silent film before the public known as " Keechaka Vaadham" in the year 1916. However with the introduction of speech in the movies, we got one of the first hit films which were known by the name of "Kalidas". Despite these movies, the film that brought worldwide fame and acclaim to the Tamil film industry was "Chandralekha" that incited the audience to no ends and they were left in awe. As a matter of fact, the success of this film paved the way for the success and the constancy of this movie industry. Incidentally, she is the current Chief Minister of Tamilnadu. Right from its inception the Tamil movie industry has been connected with politics and many of its characters and movie themes are based on ancient folk ballads of Tamil Nadu. Karunanidhi, who was the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu previously was a famous film director and also known for writing some of the best scripts for the Tamil films. Some of the leading ladies of Tamil films can also be seen in advertisements and some of them are acting as brand ambassadors of FMCG companies in India and across the globe. At present, Anushka is the top heroine in Kollywood and according to movie news she has probably cancelled a film offer from Bollywood so that she is able to act in a Tamil film that also shows her dedication towards the film industry as a whole. She can almost be compared with Hema Malini one of the noted actresses of yesteryears. Trisha is another heroine who is also popular but some of her recent films did not fare well in the box office. Tamanna is also a noted actress in Kollywood and two of the films that she is working now are much awaited by the public.
